The purpose of this course is for the beginner learning Chinese
Language Art. The course provides opportunities to learn all four
macro-skills, namely listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The
course integrates 302 new words and basic Chinese grammar, enabling the
student to read and write more than 30 short fairy tales which is based
on these words and the grammar. It helps students who have Chinese
background in building up and expanding their language knowledge and
skills

Students who have completed ma li ping level 1, will learn to use 381
commonly used Chinese characters, 47 commonly used Chinese radical and
75 stories or poems. At this level, students will emphasize on
recognizing the 381 commonly used Chinese characters by reading the
stories or poems. Meanwhile, by retelling the stories or poems,
students will enrich their ability to speak Chinese.

Students who have completed Ma Li Ping Level 2, will learn Chinese Pin
Yin and learn to write 364 commonly used Chinese characters. At this
level, students will emphasize on recognizing the 364 commonly used
Chinese characters by reading stories or poems. Also, students will
emphasize on grammar and multiple meanings for the same word or one
word with multiple pronunciations. Meanwhile, by retelling the stories
or poems, students will enrich their ability to speak Chinese. By
reading additional material at home, students will enrich their Chinese
reading skills dramatically.

Students who have completed Ma Li Ping Level 3 or Standard Chinse Level 4
will read more long novels, increase vocabularies, learn basic writing and
presentation skill. Traditional Characters will be introduced. Students
is able to meet YCT Level 4 or HSK Level 3 after completing this course.

For students who have completed Ma Li Ping Level 4, or Standard Chinese
Level 5. Students will learn how to look up words using a Chinese
dictionary, write Chinese words on a computer using keyboards, and read
rewritten chapters from a famous Chinese novel. There will be an
emphasis on recalling commonly used words from previous levels.
Students will also start to learn the basics of Chinese writing.

For children 5-6 year olds. Student should be able to express and ask
question in simple Chinese. Teaches Pinyin, character writing, rhymes,

This course is aimed at preparing students in, or going into, middle school students for the National Mathcounts Competition, a competition focused on creative mathematical problem-solving. The course teaches math concepts and provides the students with creative problem-solving experience, useful in Mathcounts and beyond. Placement tests are used to evaluate students' math level.
For students grades 5 through 8. Prerequisite: basic algebra and coordinate plane skills, comparable to Algebra 1 completion or comparable math level. This course focuses on providing students with experience in problem solving, along with mathematical ideas useful in Mathcounts and more advanced math competitions. The class focuses on training students with actual Mathcounts questions.

This course will be focused on various public speaking skills in speech
and debate. Throughout the fall semester, we will explore the various
types of public speaking events, like declamation, humorous
interpretation, dramatic interpretation, and extemporaneous speaking.
In addition, there will be an introduction to different debate forms;
Lincoln Douglass Debate and Public Forum Debate. We will give students
opportunities to present one type of public speech during the semester.
This speech could be either in English or in Chinese. During the spring
semester, the team will move more into the Chinese Debate form to
prepare for the HXSC tournament in April. Students will utilize their
public speaking skills to aid them in their Chinese debates. This
course is open to students from 4th grade and above.

Advanced Chinese Language & Culture course is designed to provide students with various opportunities to further improve their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills to be ready for the AP Chinese exam held every May. Students enrolled in this course will also have the maximum exposure to Chinese cultural elements that are integrated in the process of learning the language.
The primary goal of this course is to enable students to master conventions of communication through the exploration of topics reflecting multiple aspects of Chinese society and culture. And the main objectives of this course are, (1) Develop communicative competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills; (2) Understand the textbook lessons and supplementary materials and participate in discussions of the cultural aspects of the readings in Chinese.
